In recent years, the specialty coffee market has experienced significant growth, with consumers increasingly seeking high-quality, unique, and experiential coffee offerings. However, traditional coffee shops often struggle to reach customers in busy, urban areas or at events and festivals.

Research and Discovery
To understand user needs and improve the BrewOnWheels experience, we conducted workshops and user interviews with stakeholders and end-users. Our research aimed to identify current usage, understanding, and expectations. Key findings included
Ordering and Payment
Users faced difficulties with the ordering process, citing confusion about menu options, pricing, and payment methods. Inconsistent payment flow and lack of trust and transparency led users to seek alternative methods.
Coffee Customisation
Limited options for coffee customisation reduced users ability to tailor their drinks to their preferences. Users desired more flexibility in choosing coffee beans, brewing methods, and flavor profiles
Mobile Experience
Users experienced frustration with the mobile app, citing difficulties with navigation, slow loading times, and lack of personalised recommendations
Loyalty and Rewards
Users expressed a desire for a loyalty program that rewards frequent customers and provides exclusive offers. However, the current program was perceived as unclear and difficult to use
Sustainability and Eco-Friendliness
Users valued eco-friendly and sustainable practices, but felt that BrewOnWheels could improve in this area, particularly regarding coffee cup waste and sourcing of coffee beans
These findings will inform the design and development of the BrewOnWheels experience, ensuring that we meet the needs and expectations of our users.
Define the Statements
Our primary focus was to revamp the BrewOnWheels mobile experience to align with the brand s vision of providing high-quality, specialty coffee and exceptional customer service. We defined multiple problem statements to address through design, by leveraging user research insights, user personas, journey maps, competitor analysis, information architecture, and task flows.
Taking into consideration all these points, our aim was to enhance user engagement by:
- Streamlining the ordering process to reduce wait times and increase customer satisfactionm
- Expanding coffee customization options to cater to diverse customer preferences
- Improving mobile app performance to ensure seamless navigation and fast loading times
- Enhancing design and user experience to reflect the brand s commitment to quality education and social impact.
- Ensuring flexibility for future features to accommodate evolving customer needs and emerging trendsm
- Simplifying common transactions to make it easy for customers to order, pay, and pick up their coffee.
With a clear approach, we mapped out the information architecture to illustrate flow across platforms and connectivity. Based on the user journeys and prerequisites, we introduced exceptional and distinctive features within the app, aiming to deliver an enhanced user experience that drives customer loyalty, retention, and advocacy for BrewOnWheels.
Wireframes
It was crucial to address the pain points and opportunities of each persona, including Alex, while adhering to the considerations of simplicity, intuitiveness, and visual appeal. We prioritized a smooth and straightforward onboarding process, followed by designing an intuitive, dynamic, and visually appealing homepage.
Ensuring the app was feature-rich yet simple to use for all personas was a key focus. We achieved this by

The minimalist illustrations and subtle animations used throughout the BrewOnWheels app are thoughtfully designed to convey a sense of warmth and approachability, while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic. These visual elements effectively communicate key information, such as coffee bean origins and brewing methods, in a way that is both easy to understand and engaging to interact with.
The use of simple, yet distinctive icons and graphics helps to create a cohesive brand identity that resonates with coffee enthusiasts and casual customers alike. By incorporating these visual elements throughout the app, we aimed to craft an immersive and engaging experience that not only simplifies the process of ordering specialty coffee but also inspires users to explore and discover new flavors and brewing methods.
