GramGurukul is a pioneering online learning platform dedicated to providing high quality education to students in rural and underserved areas. To further enhance its mission and provide a
seamless learning experience, GramGurukul collaborated with us to design and develop a comprehensive mobile application.
Some of the key features for the design were:
- Implementing personalized learning paths and recommending relevant courses to enhance student engagement
- Enhancing discoverability of educational content and resources to educate users about the platform s offerings
- Gaining insights into student expectations and learning behaviors for tailored experiences.
- Developing a modular and flexible app architecture to facilitate seamless updates and feature additions
- Aligning the GramGurukul brand with users cultural and language preferences to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
- Optimizing frequently used transactions, such as course enrollment and progress tracking, to promote feature exploration and drive student success..
Research and Discovery
To understand user needs and improve the GramGurukul experience, we conducted workshops and user interviews with stakeholders, students, parents, and educators. Our research aimed to identify current usage, understanding, and expectations. Key findings included:
Learning Experience
Students and parents faced difficulties navigating the platform, citing confusion about course options, curriculum, and assessment methods. Inconsistent user experience and lack of personalized learning paths led users to seek alternative educational resources.
Content and Curriculum
Limited availability of engaging and interactive content reduced students motivation to learn. Users desired more flexibility in choosing courses, pace, and format.
Mobile Experience
Users experienced frustration with the mobile app, citing difficulties with navigation, slow loading times, and lack of push notifications for important updates.
Support and Feedback
Users valued accessibility features, such as text to speech functionality, font size adjustment, and high contrast mode. However, some users felt that the platform could improve in this area.
These findings will inform the design and development of the GramGurukul experience, ensuring that we meet the needs and expectations of our users
Define the Statements
Our primary focus was to revamp the GramGurukul online learning platform to align with the brand s vision of providing high quality, accessible, and affordable education to students in rural and underserved areas. We defined multiple problem statements to address through design, by leveraging user research insights, user personas, journey maps, competitor analysis, information architecture, and task flows.
Taking into consideration all these points, our aim was to enhance user engagement by:
- Streamlining the learning process to reduce complexity and increase student understanding.
- Expanding educational content and resources to cater to diverse student needs and preferences.
- Improving platform performance to ensure seamless navigation and fast loading times.
- Enhancing design and user experience to reflect the brand s premium quality and unique personality
- Ensuring flexibility for future features to accommodate evolving student needs and emerging trends in education
- Simplifying common transactions, such as course enrollment and progress tracking, to make it easy for students to learn and achieve their goals
With a clear approach, we mapped out the information architecture to illustrate flow across platforms and connectivity. Based on the user journeys and prerequisites, we introduced exceptional and distinctive features within the platform, aiming to deliver an enhanced user experience that drives student engagement, motivation, and academic success for GramGurukul.
Govt Bodies
GramGurukul acknowledges the vital role that government bodies of education play in shaping the future of India s students. We recognize the efforts of government institutions such as the Ministry of Education, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in promoting education and setting standards for quality education
However, we also understand that despite these efforts, many students in rural and underserved areas continue to face significant barriers to quality education, including limited access to resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified teachers.
GramGurukul aims to support and complement the efforts of government bodies of education by providing a comprehensive online learning platform that offers high quality educational content, personalized learning experiences, and access to qualified teachers and mentors. By leveraging technology and innovative learning methods, we hope to help bridge the educational gap and empower students in rural and underserved areas to reach their full potential.
Visual Design
The minimalist illustrations and subtle animations used throughout the BrewOnWheels app are thoughtfully designed to convey a sense of warmth and approachability, while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic. These visual elements effectively communicate key information, such as coffee bean origins and brewing methods, in a way that is both easy to understand and engaging to interact with.
